For UK tax year 2026/27, allocate a planned pension input against the current-year allowance and your confirmed unused amounts from earlier years.
Headroom after current and planned input
£20,000
Confirmed carry-forward entered: £45,000
Unused current-year allowance before the planned input: £15,000.
The planner applies current-year allowance first, then uses eligible prior-year amounts from oldest to newest. It allocates the combined current-year input and planned amount.
Enter only unused allowance you have confirmed is carry-forwardable after the rules for that year. This screen does not calculate tapering, MPAA or defined-benefit pension input amounts and does not check personal tax-relief limits or an annual-allowance charge.
Any unspent 2023/24 amount in this 2026/27 plan expires after 5 April 2027. Check the pension carry-forward guide before making a contribution.
Illustrative sample only. Replace it with your pension statements and confirmed allowance figures.

This planner answers a narrower question than a tapered-allowance estimator: given your 2026/27 allowance and confirmed carry-forward figures, which prior-year amounts would a planned input use first? The sample uses £60,000 current allowance, £45,000 already input this year, and a planned £40,000, then allocates the £25,000 above the current allowance from 2023/24 first.
Use your scheme statements or an HMRC calculation to confirm each figure. For the rules, examples and evidence checklist, read the Pension Carry Forward guide. The existing Pension Annual Allowance Calculator estimates the tapered current allowance and compares inputs with confirmed prior-year amounts.
This is a planning illustration. HMRC and pension scheme records determine your actual position.
