Estimate HMRC mileage allowance and company-car Advisory Fuel Rate scenarios for business travel.
For 2026/27, HMRC approved mileage rates are 55p per mile for the first 10,000 business miles and 25p thereafter for cars and vans. If your employer pays less, you may be able to claim Mileage Allowance Relief on the difference, subject to HMRC rules.
For company-car business fuel, HMRC Advisory Fuel Rates vary by fuel, engine size and effective date. From 1 September 2026, electric rates are 7p per mile for home charging and 15p for public charging; diesel uses separate bands at 1,600cc. Check the current rate when you make a claim.
For car and van National Insurance, the approved mileage amount is 55p per mile for all qualifying business miles; the 10,000-mile step shown above applies to Income Tax. The HMRC 2026/27 employer rates page records the separate NIC amount. Scotland has different Income Tax bands; you can select a Scottish marginal rate for this illustration, but it does not determine your region-specific relief or payroll treatment. Wales and Northern Ireland use the UK-wide statutory mileage amounts.
Results are estimates. The selected marginal rate is an assumption, not a regional tax calculation. Keep evidence of qualifying business journeys and employer payments. The calculator does not determine whether a journey qualifies, submit a claim, or calculate company-car personal tax.
These HMRC sources support the 2026/27 Income Tax and separate National Insurance mileage amounts, Mileage Allowance Relief and company-car Advisory Fuel Rates effective 1 September 2026. Rates can change during the year; the calculator is an estimate, not a claim submission.
