Your entered tax paid is close to this simplified benchmark; the result does not confirm that your code is correct.
Code check: emergency/non-cumulative marker present · 1257L W1: Week 1 emergency (non-cumulative) basis; underlying standard Personal Allowance code
Replace the cumulative amounts with your current-tax-year payslip figures. If your current payslip excludes earlier-employment totals, add the pay and tax carried forward on your P45; do not double-count figures already included. The estimate compares entered PAYE tax with a simplified standard-code calculation to date.
A W1/M1/X/NONCUM marker is an emergency/non-cumulative basis, but a code such as BR, D0, D1, 0T or K can be correct for your circumstances and does not prove you overpaid. Pay frequency, earlier income/tax, benefits, pension deductions, code adjustments and payroll rounding can change the result. Use this estimate as a reason to check your HMRC record; it does not show refund entitlement or diagnose a tax-code error. An S-prefix code applies Scottish bands; the Scottish option also lets you model those rates when the code has no prefix. Welsh C-prefix codes use the same Income Tax bands as England and Northern Ireland for 2026/27.
This calculator keeps entered payslip figures in the current browser tab only; it does not add them to a URL or restore them after a reload. . Use your actual HMRC tax code and payslip before contacting payroll or HMRC.
Both amounts cover the entered current-tax-year period. A difference is a reason to check your tax code and payslip; it does not confirm an overpayment or refund.

This 2026/27 estimate compares Income Tax paid to date with a simplified cumulative benchmark, then illustrates monthly tax under the entered code and a standard-code comparison.
The year-to-date benchmark uses the taxable pay entered for the elapsed tax-year months and applies the standard Personal Allowance and the selected rUK or Scottish Income Tax bands. The separate monthly illustration uses expected annual salary divided by 12; Welsh C-prefix codes use rUK bands, and an S-prefix or selected Scotland option uses Scottish bands.
The signed difference is entered PAYE Income Tax minus the simplified benchmark. A positive amount may indicate more tax was paid than this estimate; a negative amount may indicate less. The figures do not recreate payroll or decide whether HMRC or an employer will correct a code or issue a repayment.
These official HMRC and GOV.UK resources support the tax-code explanations and corrective actions on this page. The calculator is an estimate, not an HMRC payroll decision.
