Edit inputsGOV.UK says claims should usually be made within 21 months, and within 3 months for the full payment schedule. If the cause of death was confirmed late, contact the Bereavement Service about the exception. Northern Ireland has a separate claim route.

The DWP decides the rate from your circumstances; this selection only controls the published maximum schedule shown.
Reaching State Pension age during this period can reduce the number of monthly payments.
Bereavement Support Payment is not means-tested. Eligibility still depends on the claimant’s age and residence, relationship, and the deceased partner’s National Insurance record or a work-related cause of death. DWP decides eligibility, rate and award.
Read the UK Bereavement Support Payment guide for eligibility, claim routes, rate conditions and benefit interactions. This welfare payment is different from Statutory Parental Bereavement Pay through an employer.
The timing windows and maximum schedules follow current GOV.UK guidance and confirmed 2026/27 benefit rates. Check your own circumstances with the Bereavement Service.
